Gallery Visit: "Dancing in the Dark" by Brian Dickerson at O.K. Harris (Soho NY)

[Gypsy, 2011 - 2012 Oil and mixed media on wood | Source]

These pieces resemble bird houses, or the epitome of an entrapment that is inhabitable, but does not resonate life.

Their surfaces are course and distressed (weathered).  The opening in the structure is dark and resembles an infinite abyss.  One wonders what would happen if they looked inside or physically entered the space.  The idea is off-putting.  The environment around these pieces seem cold.

I think to myself:  Why would anyone want to make these?  The artist must be angry or conflicted.
